About Right

Everyday maths that sticks — shopping, money, bills. Ten minutes a day.

About Right is a daily practice app for the maths of running a life: what things cost, what change to expect, whether a bill is more than last month, whether the money in your pocket is enough.

The two problems it is built for

Skills do not stick. Something solid on Tuesday is gone by the following month, and practising harder on Tuesday does not fix it. So everything comes back on a spacing schedule — after a day, three days, a week, a fortnight, five weeks — and each time in a setting it has not been met in.

Maths that works on paper does not arrive in the shop. Someone can work out 100 minus 87 at a table and still not work out their change at a counter. So the questions are about real things: shelf labels, statements, fare boards, a till mid-sale.

What is deliberately not in it

It works with the phone switched off the network

A full day works in aeroplane mode. Answers, progress and the first name you type — if you type one — stay on the device. There is no account, and no server to send anything to.
